Here is a list of some of the volunteer opportunities available in your community:
Geraldton Cultural Trust – General Gardening: Do you have passion for nature and gardening? This position will suit a person who’s contented to work alone, who enjoys being outside in the fresh air and working in a peaceful environment. Role includes general gardening duties and maintenance. Basic gardening skills are all that is required, this includes weeding along with sweeping leaves and rubbish. Equipment is available and, if necessary, training can be provided. If gardening whilst giving back to the community appeals to you then contact us today! Days and time can be worked around the right volunteers availability.
Cancer Council WA – Midwest Relay for Life Volunteer: EVENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY!! The Cancer Council Relay for Life event is on again in the Midwest for 2020 but due to COVID-19, it looks a little different but still just as amazing. The event will be held on Saturday, 17 October but will not be a 24-hour relay event and still relies on the generosity of community members to volunteer their time. Be a part of this year’s fun “Team Games” style event by volunteering! As little as an hour of your time in various roles detailed in the description.
Communicare Inc – Volunteer Receptionist: Do you enjoy meeting new people? Communicare Geraldton are looking for a cheerful receptionist to greet all clients attending their office. As a volunteer you will be the first point of contact for all clients. General reception duties are required along with assisting staff members, mailing duties, appointment bookings for clients, photocopying and correct disposal of all documents. Volunteer is required Monday – Friday 9am – 12.30pm. This role can be shared between 2 volunteers
Greenough Museum – Museum Volunteer: Do you love meeting new people and learning about history? Greenough Museum is looking for Volunteers to welcome the many visitors travelling through! The Museum is open daily from 8.30am to 3.00pm and is located on Phillips Road, 19km south of Geraldton. The primary duties of volunteers are: reception duties and providing tourist information, cataloguing and maintaining a database, assisting with storage and careful handling of collection, museum shop sales, cleaning and maintaining the museum space. Plus, we provide complimentary tea or coffee (and maybe a vegie or two from the amazing gardens).
Foodbank Geraldton – Go Gero Van Volunteer: The Van goes to various locations around town to provide a shopping opportunity to those who are unable to get to the Webberton premises. The elderly, disabled & those with families but without cars all fall into this category. The Go Gero Van carries a range of stock that mirrors what’s on the shop shelves – dry goods, fruit & veg & meat. Foodbank are currently looking for a Volunteer to operate the Go Gero Van 3 days a week from Wed – Fri from 7.30am – 12pm with another person.
Ngala Midwest & Gascoyne – Volunteer Mentor: NOW LOOKING FOR TERM 4 2020 VOLUNTEERS! Ngala Midwest & Gascoyne is looking for people who are interested in the well-being of young people and who can engage and support them on a weekly basis for 10 weeks. The “Strong Self Strong Spirit” program (SSSS) uses strength-based practises to improve the well-being of children aged 8-12 years in Geraldton. The program aims to intervene early and prevent or reduce the emergence of anti-social or offending behaviour among young people. Mentors will participate alongside their mentees in engaging in activities, discussion, crafts and excursion. The mentors will act as a role model and supporter and to show genuine interest in the support and development of young people. Mentors will be provided with training prior to the commencement of the program. SSSS will be held every Tuesday afternoon from 3.30pm – 5.00pm at Gregory Street, throughout school terms. (period of 10 weeks each program). Mentors can volunteer for 1 Term or more if they enjoy it.
