Geraldton Volunteer Marine Rescue Group – Boat Crew: Enjoy being part of this emergency service and become a member of the boat crew. You don’t need any previous knowledge or experience. Everything is learnt on the job. Skills to gain are ropes, radio telephony, boat handling, navigational skills and ship board safety. You can gain accredited certificates in most areas as well!
Geraldton Volunteer Marine Rescue Group – Radio Monitor: Consider this exciting and rewarding role by joining this local, volunteer-run, emergency service team by monitoring and operating the Marine Radio for sea rescue purposes. Radio Operators keep ongoing computer logs of outgoing boats and operates radio to respond to situations. Volunteer members enjoy contributing to their community through their rewarding and satisfying work, whilst obtaining a high degree of training and qualifications in the maritime industry and safe boating practices generally. In critical situations, the duties performed by Volunteers can mean the difference between life and death. All Radio Operators are required to hold a Marine Radio Operator Certificate of Proficiency. Uniform is also supplied after a 3 month period of ongoing volunteering. All volunteers must become members prior to training.
Aurous Limited – Digital Community Visitor Service: Are you looking for a way give back to your community, have a spare 30 minutes a week and list “listening” as one of your superpowers? Then listen up here, because Aurous has got the volunteer position for you! The Digital Community Visitors Service (DCVS) is an initiative of Aurous, where isolated elderly people are given call-ready computer tablets and participate in a weekly video call with a wonderful volunteer “video visitor”. The only cost to you will be a little time and a little data. Very little training is needed, but Aurous will provide full training in how to Skype, what to talk about and how to be an effective part of the Digital Community Visitors team. Research shows that people who maintain social relationships live longer, healthier and more fulfilled lives!
Australian Red Cross – Geraldton Soup Patrol: With a focus on individuals, groups and communities in vulnerable situations, volunteers deliver a free, nutritious evening meal to people who are homeless, socially disadvantaged or on very low incomes. The Soup Patrol Team Member is required to have excellent communication skills and an understanding and empathy for people from diverse backgrounds, always behaving in a completely impartial and non-judgmental manner. Volunteers always go out with at least one other team member and visit various locations. The Soup Patrol program operates in Geraldton every Tuesday and Saturday afternoon.
Centacare Family Services – Back to School Project Distribution Volunteers: Centacare’s Back to School Project will be on again in 2019.
