Midwest Relay for Life – Relay Event Volunteer: The Cancer Council Relay For Life event is on again in 2019! The Event will be held on 19th & 20th October 2019. The Relay For Life Midwest Committee are seeking volunteers to help at this event. Help to ensure the smooth running of the Relay for Life Midwest Event 2019 by assisting with as little as an hour of your time in the various roles listed below. Be part of this amazing event by volunteering with your friends or family!
Midwest Disaster Relief – Volunteer Linen Sorter: Join the dedicated team of Volunteers at Midwest Disaster Relief in assisting to meet people at their point of need with household items at low cost. Donated linen needs to be sorted to ensure that people who shop at MDR are getting a decent product. The linen is sorted into three piles (1) good quality which can be sold is bagged up and priced; (2) good but needs attention like washing or mending which is given away for free and (3) linen which is only suitable for rags. If you are available for a morning or more a week from 9am – 12pm and are physically capable of repetitive movements, standing up for periods at a time and some lifting (not heavy), then please express your interest in this role which is very valued by the MDR team.
WACHS – Meals on Wheels Volunteer: This role sees Volunteers deliver hot and cold meals directly to the homes of isolated and aged community members. This role requires the use of your own vehicle and it may also be something you’d like to do with a friend or family member. Deliveries are done by Volunteers each weekday from 11am for approx. 1- 1 ½ hrs. Collection of eskies and run sheets from the Geraldton Health Campus and then taken to your client’s home. A few minutes of your time to each client will be greatly appreciated and it may be the only contact that person has all day! You can go on the roster each week, fortnight or month – whatever time you can offer is very welcome!
Australian Red Cross – Soup Patrol Volunteer: Soup Patrol volunteers provide a free meal to people who are homeless, socially disadvantaged or on very low incomes. Volunteers prepare for the soup shift, visit locations to meet with consumers of the service and serve soup, followed by clean up in the kitchen. The van goes out every Tuesday and Saturday afternoon from 4.30pm. Strong communication skills, understanding and empathy for others, and a non-judgemental approach to others is essential for this role. Could you offer one shift a month? Please consider this role.
St John Ambulance – Volunteer Ambulance Officer: Are you interested in clinical and community-based volunteer work? Are you over the age of 18 & physically fit? Volunteer with your local sub-centre as a Volunteer Ambulance Officer. Attend emergency and non-emergency ambulance calls as well as other duties as required. Commitment is approx 60 hours annually, based on 1 shift plus training per month. To continue to operate in your role, you must maintain the competencies required & appropriate level of fitness as roles are physically demanding.
City of Greater Geraldton – Late Night Basketball: Wanted! Positive and engaging adult role models to enjoy this exciting local program commencing 2 August for 8 weeks from 6.30-10.30 concluding Friday 20 September! Various roles assisting and supporting young people are available to local residents who have a genuine interest in the well-being of our local young people, 13-18 yrs. This is a safe, lock-in event which offers dinner, workshops and games of basketball to our local young with the intention of keeping them engaged and away from any antisocial behaviour. Volunteers do not have to commit to the whole 8 weeks – just let them know your availability and they will do all they can to include you. Volunteers must be 18+ and must either hold a current Working with Children Card or be willing to obtain one. The Committee are able to assist any potential volunteer with applying for a WWCC.
St Vincent de Paul Geraldton – Vinnies Shop Assistant: Come and join the friendly team at the Geraldton Vinnies shop! They are seeking friendly, helpful new team members who would like to give back to their community by helping sell clothes, sort donations, greet and serve customers and store and package food hampers. By volunteering you can be sure you’re making a difference to people in need. For many volunteers, this is a chance to give something back to the community and to use their skills and experience to make a difference in the lives of people who need assistance the most. Store opening hours are Mon- Fri 9am – 3.30 pm and Sat 9am- 12pm.
Department of Fire & Emergency Services – Bush Fire Service Volunteer: Bush Fire Service Volunteers play a significant and vital role in helping to ensure their local communities are safe. The Waggrakine VBFB is currently seeking your interest in becoming a volunteer. Whether you see yourself on the end of a hose fighting fires and responding to incidents or prefer to contribute your ideas in an administrative or support role, we would love to hear from you. The colder months offer a fantastic starting point for people with no experience to learn all the basic skills it takes to become part of the team without the worry of hot summer days getting in the way. Training will take place at the Waggrakine fire station to begin your initial membership but with the right attitude and the will to learn you will quickly be presented with the opportunities to attend more advanced training and qualifications that you could not have imagined before. Foodbank Geraldton – Front Counter / Scales Assistant: Do you have great customer service? Do you have basic office/admin skills? Able to perform mental maths and have a reasonable level of physical mobility? Are you looking for a different and rewarding volunteer role? Foodbank Geraldton has a new and varied volunteer role for 3 days per week, dealing with the public, some admin work and loading and unloading trolleys.
Geraldton Dog Rescue – Foster Carers: Whilst waiting to find their forever home the dogs need a safe place to stay!
Therefor new Volunteer Foster Carers are needed! Most dogs require a safe foster home for 1 – 4 weeks. Carers can choose what size, breed or sex of the dog they are willing to care for. Foster carers must NOT have more dogs than permitted on the property (2 dogs + foster =OK). Carers are asked to provide Fresh water/ food, shelter, love and kindness. If you have a genuine love for dogs, have a fenced yard and patience and would like to give fostering a go then contact us today!
