Here is a list of some of the volunteer opportunities available in your community:
Scinapse – Goodness Festival Event Volunteers: Goodness Festival Launch & Science Extravaganza is happening this Saturday (10 August) at TAFE. Enthusiastic and engaging people wanted to help with a variety of roles including assisting with science experiments/activities, getting people to fill out feedback forms on iPad or on their own devices, watch kids on bouncy castle and help pack up after the event. Even if you can offer 1 hour of your time, we would love to hear from you today or tomorrow please!
City of Greater Geraldton – Late Night Basketball: Wanted! Positive and engaging adult role models to enjoy this exciting local program commencing 2 August for 8 weeks from 6.30-10.30 concluding Friday 20 September. Various roles assisting and supporting young people are available to local residents who have a genuine interest in the well-being of our local young people, 13-18 yrs. This is a safe, lock-in event which offers dinner, workshops and games of basketball to our local young with the intention of keeping them engaged and away from any antisocial behaviour. Volunteers do not have to commit to the whole 8 weeks – just let them know your availability and they will do all they can to include you. Volunteers must be 18+ and must either hold a current Working with Children Card or be willing to obtain one. The Committee are able to assist any potential volunteer with applying for a WWCC.
Geraldton Dog Rescue – Foster Carers: Whilst waiting to find their forever home the dogs need a safe place to stay!
Therefor new Volunteer Foster Carers are needed! Most dogs require a safe foster home for 1 – 4 weeks. Foster Carers can choose what size, breed or sex of the dog they are willing to care for. Foster carers must NOT have more dogs than permitted on the property (2 dogs + foster =OK). Foster Carers are asked to provide Fresh water/ food, shelter and love and kindness. If you have a genuine love for dogs, have a fenced yard and patience and would like to give fostering a go then contact us today!
Midwest Yellow Ribbon- General Volunteer/IT Volunteer: Midwest Yellow Ribbon for Life promotes mental wellness and prevention of suicide while enhancing life in our community through education, support and linking to local support services. We would like someone who is able to assist with the IT side and who is confident to maintain a website, but we welcome all new volunteers without specific skills! Time required would be around 1-2 hours per week.
Communicare Inc – Volunteer Youth Leader: Are you fun and enthusiastic, enjoy physical activity and value physical fitness for children? Communicare are looking for you! The role of the Volunteer Youth Leader includes helping to set up the activities and pack them away after the session, leading the participants through the activities and encouraging and supporting the participants. Volunteer Youth Leaders are adults from all walks of life who are looking to make a difference. The role requires a 3-4 hour commitment per week. Greenough Museum – Museum Volunteer: Do you love meeting new people and learning about history? Greenough Museum is looking for Volunteers to welcome visitors! The Museum is open daily from 8.30 to 3.30 and is located 19km south of Geraldton .The primary duties of volunteers are: reception duties and providing tourist information, cataloguing and maintaining a database, assisting with storage and careful handling of collection, museum shop sales, cleaning and maintaining the museum space. Plus, we provide complimentary tea or coffee (and maybe a vegie or two from the amazing gardens).
Geraldton Greenough Sunshine Festival– Float Parade Coordinator: This iconic festival simply could not operate without the generous support of its wonderful team of volunteers. Volunteers can be part of this exciting signature event while making a contribution to our local community. The Float Parade Coordinator is required to –
* Email and follow up on the previous year’s participates
* Make contact with potential new parade entrants
* Coordinate filling out parade entry form and payment
* Assist preparation of parade assembly area
There are only 4 meetings left to attend and help on the day (October 6) is essential as there is normally a last-minute rush for entries. Meeting are held on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 6pm.
Geraldton Greenough Sunshine Festival– General Members: The Geraldton Greenough Sunshine Festival is Geraldton’s longest running festival and it’s on again this October 6 2019! If you like being involved in your community, have great ideas, are creative and enjoy working as a team – we would love to hear from you! You must be able to attend committee meetings; they are held fortnightly and only 4 to go until the big event! If this sounds like you, please express your interest and tell us a bit about yourself.
