Here is a list of some of the volunteer opportunities available in your community:
Centacare Family Services – Back to School Project – Distribution Volunteers: We require volunteers to assist with the distribution of our Back-to-School stationary packs from the Maitland St office. Distribution will be from Wed 23rd January– Friday 1st February (excluding Mon 28 Jan). Hours are from 9am – 1pm on any day you can help. If this interests you, we would love to hear from you. Funtavia – Fringe Festival Event Volunteers: EVENT VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY!
Geraldton’s award winning Regional Fringe World Festival Hub Funtavia is once again bringing a collection of the world’s biggest Fringe acts into Geraldton – and you can experience an exclusive taste of them by becoming an event Volunteer!
If you are available anytime from 7th February – 9th February and would love to be involved with this exciting event in any capacity, please complete the form at this link. As a Volunteer you will get access to shows (subject to capacity) and of course the opportunity of being part of a fabulous community festival!
St Vincent de Paul – Welfare Support Officer: Vinnies offers opportunities for members of the community to give their time, talents and other skills to assist the less fortunate members of our community by volunteering to work in Vinnies Stores. The role of a Volunteer Welfare Support Officer is to provide welfare assistance to members of the public who are experiencing financial hardship. The types of assistance provided could include: General living costs, assist in client referrals, emergency food parcels, clothing and bill paying. Confidentiality is a high priority in which Volunteers always have a duty to maintain. This role also requires Volunteers to be supportive, caring and always remain non-judgemental to all those they have contact with.
Ngala Midwest & Gascoyne – Volunteer Mentor: NOW LOOKING FOR TERM 1 2019 VOLUNTEERS! Ngala Midwest & Gascoyne is looking for people who are interested in the well-being of young people and who can engage and support them on a weekly basis for 10 weeks. The “Strong Self Strong Spirit” program (SSSS) uses strength-based practises to improve the well-being of children aged 8-12 years in Geraldton. The program aims to intervene early and prevent or reduce the emergence of anti-social or offending behaviour among young people. Mentors will participate alongside their mentees in engaging in activities, discussion, crafts and excursion. The mentors will act as a role model and supporter and to show genuine interest in the support and development of young people. Mentors will be provided with FREE mentor training prior to the commencement of the program. SSSS will be held every Tuesday afternoon from 3.30pm – 5.00pm at Mitchell Street, Spalding throughout school terms. (period of 10 weeks each program). Mentors can volunteer for 1 Term or more if they enjoy it.
Juniper Hillcrest – Activities Assistant: Volunteer in a lovely environment that is home to our older community members, many of whom don’t have regular visitors. Volunteer Activities Assistants interact with the residents to help promote and encourage their independence and well-being, as part of the dynamic therapy and leisure program. Activities may include helping with craft, light exercise, cooking or gardening groups, driving residents to appointments, accompanying on community outings or simply having a coffee and a chat! Socialising with the residents helps brighten their day and yours! A minimum of a 12-month commitment is requested of all volunteers
WACHS – Meals on Wheels Volunteer: This role sees Volunteers deliver hot and cold meals directly to the homes of isolated and aged community members. This role requires the use of your own vehicle and it may also be something you’d like to do with a friend or family member. Deliveries are done by Volunteers each weekday from 11am for approx. 1- 1 ½ hrs. Collection of eskies and run sheets from the Geraldton Health Campus and then taken to your client’s home. A few minutes of your time to each client will be greatly appreciated and it may be the only contact that person has all day! You can go on the roster each week, fortnight or month – whatever time you can offer is very welcome!
