CENTACARE FAMILY SERVICES
COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER SERVICE
Current Volunteer Opportunities List
Here is a list of some of the volunteer opportunities available in your community:
Centacare Family Services – Raffle Ticket Volunteers: Centacare is looking for the generous support of local people to join our team of Raffle Ticket Volunteers for this upcoming Christmas period! If you can offer an hour or two of your time for our Christmas appeal, we would love to hear from you! Volunteers help sell raffle tickets at various supermarkets. It is a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and people you haven’t seen while supporting our organisation and the community.
WACHS – Meals on Wheels Volunteer: This role sees Volunteers deliver hot and cold meals directly to the homes of isolated and aged community members. As a volunteer, you will be given a list of your clients that corresponds with your esky/delivery run. This role requires the use of your own vehicle and it may also be something you’d like to do with a friend or family member. Deliveries are done by Volunteers each weekday from 11am for approx. 1- 1 ½ hrs. Collection of eskies and run sheets from the Geraldton Health Campus and then taken to your client’s home. A few minutes of your time to each client will be greatly appreciated and it may be the only contact that person has all day! You can go on the roster each week, fortnight or month – whatever time you can offer is very welcome!
Australian Red Cross – Geraldton Soup Patrol: With a focus on individuals, groups and communities in vulnerable situations, volunteers deliver a free, nutritious evening meal to people who are homeless, socially disadvantaged or on very low incomes. The Team Member Volunteer is required to have excellent communication skills and an understanding and empathy for people from diverse backgrounds, always behaving in a completely impartial and non-judgmental manner. Volunteers always go out with at least one other team member and visit various locations.
Read, Write Now – Volunteer Tutor: Are you interested in sharing your love of reading and writing? This free adult literacy group is back in Geraldton! Many adults cannot imagine what it would be like not being able to read a newspaper, fill out of a form or write a letter to a loved one. The Read Write Now! adult literacy program has been operating in WA since 1977 and has helped thousands of adults improve their reading a writing. Students meet with a trained volunteer (You!) once a week to help improve reading and writing skills. There are no tests and no text books; lesson plans are developed around individual needs to achieve goals. Let us know if you are passionate about improving the literacy of an adult!
Share the Dignity – Shero: Do you have a passion to help women and girls in need? Volunteers that that have a willingness to communicate and be prepared to manage a collection point in Geraldton are in high demand! Share the Dignity provides FREE sanitary items to all those in need. You will be required to empty and care for the donation bins and distribute the donations to local assigned agencies. As there can be some driving around involved as a Shero/Hero, having a current driver’s licence and access to a vehicle is required. Could you be the Shero/Hero in our town?
St John Ambulance – Volunteer Ambulance Officer: Are you interested in clinical and community-based volunteer work? Are you over the age of 18 & physically fit? Volunteer with your local sub-centre as a Volunteer Ambulance Officer. Attend emergency and non-emergency ambulance calls as well as other duties as required. Commitment is approx 60 hours annually, based on 1 shift plus training per month. To continue to operate in your role, you must maintain the competencies required & appropriate level of fitness as roles are physically demanding.
Juniper Hillcrest – Activities Assistant: Volunteer Activities Assistants interact with the residents to help promote and encourage their independence and well-being, as part of the dynamic therapy and leisure program. Activities may include helping with craft, light exercise, cooking or gardening groups, driving residents to appointments, accompanying on community outings or simply having a coffee and a chat! Socialising with the residents helps brighten their day and yours! A minimum of a 12-month commitment is requested of all volunteers.
