Here is a list of some of the volunteer opportunities available in your community:
City of Greater Geraldton – Battle of the Bands: The City of Greater Geraldton’s youth team have their annual Battle of the Bands concert coming up on Sunday October 28, 2018! They are asking for volunteers to assist in the first aid tent, set up and pack down crew, information tent, litter collectors and all-round helpers on the day! Any hours contributed to this event throughout the day is greatly appreciated! If you enjoy music and want to be part of this fun annual event, contact us today!
Share the Dignity – Shero: Do you have a passion to help women and girls in need? Volunteers that that have a willingness to communicate and be prepared to manage a collection point in Geraldton are in high demand! Share the Dignity provides FREE sanitary items to all those in need. You will be required to empty and care for the donation bins and distribute the donations to local assigned agencies. As there can be some driving around involved as a Shero/Hero, having a current driver’s licence and access to a vehicle is required. Could you be the Shero/Hero in our town?
Midwest Charity Begins at Home – Charity Ball Event Volunteer: The 11th Annual Gala Dinner is being held on Sat 27th October 2018, with the theme CIRCUS! MCBAH requires the support of volunteers in setting up event and pack down of the event, selling raffle tickets, removing glasses from tables, helping with silent auctions and assisting the guests where needed. Pollinators – Be Connected Digital Mentor Volunteer: Be Connected is a new Australian Government program aimed at increasing the confidence, skills and online safety of older Australians when they use the internet. Older Australians with low internet skills can often feel isolated from their community and family. Do you have the interest in teaching new skills to older members of our community? Digital Mentor Volunteers are needed fortnightly on Mondays from 10am – 12pm to work directly with learners as they develop new digital skills. As a Volunteer you can be part of a bigger movement to make a positive change happen for older people and communities who are digitally excluded. An on-going commitment is required of all Volunteers.
St John Ambulance – Volunteer Ambulance Officer: Are you interested in clinical and community-based volunteer work? Are you over the age of 18 & physically fit? Volunteer with your local sub-centre as a Volunteer Ambulance Officer. Attend emergency and non-emergency ambulance calls as well as other duties as required. Commitment is approx 60 hours annually, based on 1 shift plus training per month. To continue to operate in your role, you must maintain the competencies required & appropriate level of fitness as roles are physically demanding.
Centacare Family Services – Home Visit Service Volunteer: Many people live lonely lives in our community. We have created a Home Visiting Service for people in our community who are isolated and needing support. We are looking for volunteers who can be matched with our clients who have differing and specific needs. We have 2 clients waiting to be matched with a suitable volunteer. Currently looking for a dog walker and a transport Volunteer to get a terminally ill woman to important doctors’ appointments. Please contact us for more information.
Australian Red Cross – Geraldton Soup Patrol: With a focus on individuals, groups and communities in vulnerable situations, volunteers deliver a free, nutritious evening meal to children, young people and adults who are homeless, socially disadvantaged or on very low incomes. People accessing this service may be families, individual adults and unaccompanied children. This position requires the volunteer to have excellent communication skills and an understanding and empathy for people from diverse backgrounds, at all times behaving in a completely impartial and non-judgmental manner.
