kristy Volunteer Stories

We have recently had the pleasure in assisting 11 year old Vayuni into 2 different volunteer roles. We enjoy seeing young people benefiting from volunteering, finding more about their community in which they live and assisting others, so we thought we’d share her story with you.

Why did you start volunteering?
I initially started volunteering to learn valuable skills to widen my career prospects and as a part of my Compass award. But after volunteering for the first time, helping others in the simplest ways felt very rewarding.

Where have you volunteered before?
I started volunteering at the Bethanie Community Care, Geraldton. Helping the elderly with their daily activities and playing games such as chess, scrabble and other physical activities was very enjoyable.

Are you currently volunteering at the moment?
Not at the moment, but when an opportunity comes up I will try to participate.

What did you like or dislike about it?
At the Chevron City to Surf for Activ, I liked presenting the medals for the participants and holding the finishing ribbon.
I liked helping the elderly community and socializing with them at the Bethanie Community Care. Helping in the kitchen with baking lemon cakes for the members of the community was also great because I love baking.

Would you volunteer again?
Definitely!

What would you tell other young people about volunteering and why they should try it?
Volunteering is fun and anyone can volunteer. It makes you fit too because you are active most of the time. Moreover, contributing few hours of your day to help others builds up the community spirit and when you’ve done it, the sense of accomplishment you get is amazing.

Thank you Vayuni for your interest and commitment to volunteering!
