We provide support services to victims of crime, family violence and child witnesses.

Victim Support Service – Midwest and Gascoyne

From the Geraldton and Carnarvon offices, we offer support to individuals who have been effected by crime. We provide counselling, referrals, advocacy and information on criminal justice processes to victims of crime.

WHAT THIS SERVICE PROVIDES

Offers confidential counselling and support services to victims of crime.

WHO THIS IS TYPICALLY FOR

Anyone who is/has been a victim of crime.

WHAT THIS SERVICE ENTAILS

Support for victims by way of counselling, referrals, assistance with victim impact statements, providing information and support when giving evidence, support when making an application for a restraining order and assistance with enquires about criminal injuries compensation.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

As a victim of crime, making decisions can be difficult and confusing. It is important to know how or where to get information and support. During this difficult time, it is vital that a victim is treated with courtesy, compassion and respect.

Child Witness Service – Midwest and Gascoyne

The Child Witness Service provides emotional support and practical preparation for children under 18 years of age who are to give evidence to a court.

WHO THIS IS TYPICALLY FOR

The children involved can be victims or witnesses to any criminal charge. This includes the Magistrates Court, Children’s Court, District Court or Supreme Court.

The court process can add to the stress of a child victim or witness. However, ensuring they are adequately prepared to give their evidence can reduce their emotional stress and enable them to better participate in court proceedings.

WHAT THIS SERVICE ENTAILS

Provides practical information and helps young people to emotionally prepare for court. They support children and young people on an individual basis.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

It is important that a child or young person is referred to Child Witness Service as soon as possible after charges have been laid against an alleged offender.
