Marriage Preparation Course – Geraldton

Assists couples preparing for marriage to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of themselves, each other and their relationship at significant points throughout the lifecycle.

The fee for this service is $200 per couple.


SNUGGLES for Mums and Bubs – Geraldton

This is a first time Mums group in partnership with St John of God for Mums, for babies under 8 months and expectant Mums.  This friendly group has a variety of speakers who are specialists in their field.

WHAT THIS SERVICE PROVIDES

This FREE parenting group provides opportunities for first time Mums with young babies less than 8 months of age and expectant Mums to gain Support, Nurture, Understanding, Guidance, Growth, Learning, Enjoyment and Socialising.

WHO THIS IS TYPICALLY FOR

For first time Mums with babies 8 months and under and expectant Mums.

WHAT THIS SERVICE ENTAILS

Each week a different guest speaker presents information in their area of specialty e g. infant resuscitation, introduction to solids. Mums are encouraged to attend all sessions of this group in order to fully benefit from the experience.

This parenting group provides a safe environment to meet other new Mums, build strong support networks and lasting friendships. A variety of friendly professionals are on hand to answer any questions of concern they may have.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

This programme is a partnership between Centacare and St John of God Hospital, run during the school terms. Due to limited places, registration is a must for each term. Only those registered will be permitted to participate.

A midwife from St John of God Hospital also attends every session of the group to answer any questions or provide any direction that the Mums may seek.

Staying Connected – Geraldton and via Telephone

To assist separated parents to explore healthy ways to communicate with each other, for the benefit of their children.

WHAT THIS SERVICE PROVIDES 

Staying Connected is a workshop for separated parents focussing on the wellbeing of their children, themselves as parents and exploring better ways to communicate with the other parent.

WHO THIS IS TYPICALLY FOR

Staying Connected helps separated parents have strong, healthy relationship with their children. This workshop is for separated parents, step parents or other caregivers of the children in a separated family. Each parent or caregiver attends the workshop separately.

WHAT THIS SERVICE ENTAILS

This 3 hour, one off workshop helps parents to:

  • Understand the effects of family separation on children
  • Understand the impact of parental conflict on children
  • Improve communication with the other parent
  • Be a more effective parent

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

Staying Connected is offered via telephone for persons outside of the Geraldton area when required.

If our course schedule doesn’t suit you, individual session times may be negotiated.

Attending and completing Staying Connected is a compulsory component when engaging with the Children’s Contact Service or Family Dispute Resolution through the Family Relationship Centre.

Straight Talk Wiribarndi Wangga – Geraldton

Supports Aboriginal women who are feeling the effects of living in an unhealthy relationship.[/text_output]

WHAT THIS SERVICE PROVIDES

To provide support and education to victims of Domestic and Family Violence and to empower them to engage with different agencies to address their needs.

WHO THIS IS TYPICALLY FOR

Indigenous and non-indigenous women in collaboration with the Barndimalgu Court, Victim Support Service and Centacare  who have been victims of Domestic and Family Violence.

WHAT THIS SERVICE ENTAILS

The programme goes for 7 weeks covering topics such as, the Barndimalgu Court Process, Indigenous Family Violence Programme, self-talk and the benefits of counselling, violence, substance abuse and much more. This programme is facilitated by our Aboriginal Community Advocate and guest speakers.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

Straight Talk is held at Rangeway Child & Parent Centre, the programme is held during school terms.


Grief and Loss Support – Geraldton

Assists individuals who have experienced loss through death, separation, employment, relocation etc.

WHAT THIS SERVICE PROVIDES

This workshop looks at the process involved in grieving and explores ways in which the processes can be managed.

WHO THIS IS TYPICALLY FOR

Adults or children with such issues as separation, divorce, illness, relationship breakdown, death or even unemployment.

WHAT THIS SERVICE ENTAILS

Skills to manage change or loss, awareness that it is normal to experience a range of emotions around change, loss and grief.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

This is an educational programme and is not a counselling or therapy session.
