Here is a list of some of the volunteer opportunities available in your community:
Geraldton Volunteer Marine Rescue Group – Radio Monitor: Volunteer Marine Rescue Services volunteers play a significant and vital role in helping ensure their local communities are safe. Volunteers are training and equipped to carry out local marine radio service operations and communications. Suitable volunteers will have good communication skills, basic computer skills, ability to work within a team and an interest in learning new skills in marine radio communications. Salvation Army Geraldton – After School Program Volunteer: The program, In My Zone, aims to help young people develop a better understanding of themselves and their zones, enabling them the build a greater sense of worth and self-awareness. The Salvation Army and Helping Minds Geraldton are looking for Volunteers to support, encourage and engage with these young people during their after-school program by being a mentor and an encouraging adult to supervise and encourage the young people to participate in the activities. A current working with Children’s Check is essential. Monday afternoons on a fortnightly basis from 3.30pm.
Australian Red Cross (Geraldton Sun City Unit) – Raffle Ticker Volunteer- Sitting with a Red Cross Member, community volunteers are invited and encouraged to help sell Christmas Raffle tickets. Located at various shopping centres across town and on Saturdays and Sundays between now and 9th December, be a positive presence in the community whilst fundraising and promoting the Geraldton Sun City Red Cross Unit. An easy but valued role that anyone can do!
City of Greater Geraldton –Friday Night Football: is a free, fun AFL9s mixed competition for 12-17 year olds. The tournament runs from Friday 3 November for 5 weeks from 6pm – 10pm. Six Volunteer Footy Coaches will work with teams of 10 young people to play round robin AFL9s and join in a life skills workshop covering a range of topics. Join us for dinner beforehand. Friday Night Footy is a great way to keep fit throughout the summer and have a kick and a laugh with an awesome bunch of teenagers and volunteers alike. Become involved with this team recreational program with other like-minded Volunteers to encourage and support the Youth of our community by being a positive role-model and mentor.
Juniper Hillcrest – Activities Assistant: Volunteer Activities Assistants interact with the residents to help promote and encourage their independence and well-being, as part of the dynamic therapy and leisure program. Activities may include helping with craft, light exercise, cooking or gardening groups, driving residents to appointments, accompanying on community outings or simply having a coffee and a chat! Socialising with the residents helps brighten their day and yours! A minimum of a 12 month commitment is requested of all volunteers.
Centacare Family Services – Raffle Ticket Volunteers: Centacare is looking for the generous support of local people to join our team of Raffle Ticket Volunteers for this upcoming Christmas period! If you can offer an hour or two of your time for our Christmas appeal, we would love to hear from you! Volunteers help sell raffle tickets at various supermarkets. It is a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and people you haven’t seen while supporting our organisation.
WACHS – Community Care Day Centre Volunteer: This important and valued role assists hospital employees support and engage with their community based clients who are frail, aged and younger people with disabilities. The Day Centre within the Geraldton Health Campus is a vibrant and engaging centre and requires vibrant and engaging volunteers to actively participate in activities and programs. Suitable volunteers will be able to work as part of a team and be able to communicate well with older people and people with disabilities. This role is flexible and is available weekdays from 10am – 2pm or any time you can offer!
WACHS – Meals on Wheels Volunteer: This role sees Volunteers deliver hot and cold meals directly to the homes of isolated and aged community members. As a volunteer, you will be given a list of your clients that corresponds with your esky/delivery run. This role requires the use of your own vehicle and it may also be something you’d like to do with a friend or family member. Deliveries are done by Volunteers each weekday from 11am for approx. 1- 1 ½ hrs. Collection of eskies and run sheets from the Geraldton Health Campus and then taken to your clients home. A few minutes of your time to each client will be greatly appreciated and it may be the only contact that person has all day! You can go on the roster each week, fortnight or month – whatever time you can offer is very welcome!
Girl Guides WA – Region Leader: Increase your confidence and learn new skills in this important volunteer role! As a Region Manager for Girl Guides WA, you will work with adult volunteer Girl Guide Leaders in the Northwest country area, providing communications, advice and support. This role takes between 2-5 hours each week with most of the work being able to be done at home via email or phone. Occasional trips to Perth (paid for by Guides WA) may be required. No Guide experience necessary to be able to perform this role.
