Current Volunteer Opportunities List


Here is a list of some of the volunteer opportunities available in your community:


St Vincent de Paul GeraldtonVinnies Shop Assistant: Come and join the friendly team at the Geraldton Vinnies shop!

We are seeking friendly, helpful new team members who would like to give back to their community by helping us sell clothes, sort donations, greet and serve customers and store and package food hampers. By volunteering in our shop you can be sure you’re making a difference to people in need.  For many volunteers, this is a chance to give something back to the community and to use their skills and experience to make a difference in the lives of people who need assistance the most. Store opening hours are Mon- Fri 9am – 3.30pm (shifts of 8.30am-12pm and 12pm-3.30pm) and Sat 9am- 12pm.


St Vincent de Paul GeraldtonTruck Driver: St Vinnies is looking for energetic, fit drivers who will be able to collect bread, empty donation bins, collect donated furniture items and deliver back to the store. On occasions the drivers will also be required to collect donated items from outlining areas. If you are available for a few hours a week from Mon-Fri, we’d love to hear from you! There will be some heavy lifting required. A normal C Class licence is the minimum requirement.


Salvation Army Geraldton – After School Program Volunteer: The Salvation Army and Helping Minds Geraldton are holding a weekly after-school program with fun filled activities, special guests and excursions on a Monday afternoon during the school term. The program, In My Zone, aims to help young people develop a better understanding of themselves and their zones, enabling them the build a greater sense of worth and self-awareness. The Salvation Army and Helping Minds Geraldton are looking for Volunteers to support, encourage and engage with these young people during their after-school program by being a mentor and an encouraging adult to supervise and encourage the young people to participate in the activities. A current working with Children’s Check is essential.


Ngala Midwest & Gascoyne Strong Self Strong Spirit Volunteer Mentor – SSSS uses strength based practises to improve the wellbeing of children aged 8-12 years in Geraldton. The program aims to intervene early and prevent or reduce the emergence of anti-social or offending behaviour among young people. Mentors will participate alongside their mentees in engaging in activities, discussion, crafts and excursions each Tuesday afternoon during school term. We are looking for 2 volunteers for Term 4 2017 to act as role models and supporters and to show genuine interest in the support and development of young people. Mentors will be provided with FREE mentor training.


Arts & Cultural Development CouncilGallery MinderBe a positive presence in the ACDC gallery, showcasing the works of local exhibiting artists from across the Midwest. You may be required to assist customers with purchasing works of art, providing information about local artists when asked. All training is provided on the job. All training and support is provided on the job. Having a keen interest in art and community development would suit this role.


City of Greater GeraldtonFriday Night Football: is a free, fun AFL9s mixed competition for 12-17 year olds. The tournament runs from Friday 3 November for 5 weeks from 6pm – 10pm. Six Volunteer Footy Coaches will work with teams of 10 young people to play round robin AFL9s and join in a life skills workshop covering a range of topics. Join us for dinner beforehand. Friday Night Footy is a great way to keep fit throughout the summer and have a kick and   a laugh with an awesome bunch of teenagers and volunteers alike. Become involved with this team recreational program with other like-minded Volunteers to encourage and support the Youth of our community by being a positive role-model and mentor.


Juniper HillcrestActivities Assistant: Helpful, sociable person wanted as a Volunteer Activities Assistant. No formal qualifications required, however the right person must be caring, empathetic, show initiative and want to help put a smile on resident’s faces.  The Volunteer Activities Assistant interacts with the residents to help promote and encourage their independence and well-being. Activities range from playing bingo, walking, exercising baking (or whatever skills you have that you can teach).  Socialising with the residents helps brighten their day and yours! A minimum of a 12 month commitment is requested of all volunteers. Free morning tea provided when volunteering during tea times. Police clearances will be required which will be done for free.


City of Greater GeraldtonBack on Track Coordinator:  This fun and valued role within the City of Greater Geraldtons Youth Development program would suit someone with a bit of mechanical know-how and willingness to learn. The Coordinators role is to oversee the basic maintenance of three cars one afternoon a week, as well as supervise six young people on race nights at the Geraldton City Speedway.  The young Streets of Dirt is a quarter midget speedway racing program for young people. If the Coordinator role isn’t something you’d like to take on but are interested in being involved in a lesser capacity, the City would love to hear from you as well! A current Working with Children Check is essential (or a willingness to obtain one) as well as a willingness to work with at risk youth. Please consider applying for this volunteer position if you are available on a Saturday afternoon and evening, have some mechanical knowledge and can work with young people.


Midwest Relay for LifeVariety of Roles : Please consider volunteering for this annual community event. Grab a friend or two and volunteer together! The Cancer Council Relay For Life event is on again in the Midwest on 21st & 22nd October 2017. The Relay For Life Midwest Committee are seeking volunteers to help ensure the smooth running of the event by assisting with as little as an hour of your time in various roles. Any assistance you can provide our committee to help this event happen will be greatly welcomed.

Volunteers are needed for –
– Set up Friday afternoon and/or Saturday morning

– Taking photos of the event/teams/sponsors
– Assist survivors & carers before their Relay lap & assist in club rooms for luncheon on Saturday
– Organise kids activities for Saturday
– Pack down on Sunday

STAYPainter: This organisation has a need for a mature person who has had some painting experience to paint external doors to their premises. All equipment and paint is provided, they just need someone’s time and skills! The hours/days can be up to the Volunteer as they have staff on 24 hours a day. If you have a few days available and would like to offer this great organisation your time and skills, they’d love to hear from you.


FoodbankVariety of Roles: Do you have confident customer service skills, are extremely reliable, willing to learn and able to be a great team member? Then Foodbank are looking for you!  Volunteers are involved in all aspects of the operations, including helping customers on the weighbridge, warehouse management, stocking shelves and fridges, greeting and assisting customers on the front counter and admin roles and general cleaning. This generosity makes a huge difference to the lives of those many people who access Foodbank.


City of Greater GeraldtonArt Gallery Front Desk: Do you love the art scene and meeting new people? The Geraldton Art Gallery is looking for you! Front Desk Volunteers are the first point of contact for visitors to the Geraldton Art Gallery. Tasks include welcoming visitors, assist customers in the new gift shop, recording attendance, basic computer input, circulating gallery event posters and the monthly count of donations. Group training will be provided to volunteers before each new exhibition so you will confident in sharing the artist story to the public.
