Current Volunteer Opportunities List


Here is a list of some of the volunteer opportunities available in your community:


Midwest Disaster ReliefFurniture Repair Volunteer: The Furniture Repair Volunteer is important to the running of this organisation. The main tasks are to repair and renovate antique and modern furniture goods that are generously donated to MDR. Skills such as carpentry, joinery skills and painting are required. These repaired and renovated items are then sold at low cost to community members. Some customer service is required in this role so some basic customer service skills are desirable. The volunteer must be able to work unsupervised.


Greenough Museum – (formally the Greenough Pioneer Museum) – Museum Volunteer:  Do you love meeting new people and learning about history? Greenough Museum is looking for Volunteers to welcome visitors! The Museum is open daily from 9.00 to 3.30 and is located 19km south of Geraldton on Phillips Road. The primary duties of volunteers are: reception duties and providing tourist information, cataloguing and maintaining a database, assisting with storage and careful handling of collection, museum shop sales, cleaning and maintaining the museum space. Plus we provide complimentary tea or coffee (and maybe a vegie or two from the garden).


Midnight Basketball – Committee MembersMidnight Basketball Geraldton is currently recruiting Committee members for their first tournament for 2018. Midnight Basketball provides volunteers with a unique and personally rewarding opportunity to be engaged in a local program for ‘at risk’ youth. As a Committee member, you do not have to attend tournament nights, and no prior basketball knowledge is required.  Committee members must be over 18 and have a current WWC Check.  Roles include Chair, Volunteer Manager, Logistics Manager, Workshop Manager, Youth Manager, Finance Manager, Community Fundraising Manager and Media Manager. Centacare Family Services- SNUGGLES Mothers Group has commenced for 2018!  And we are looking for a volunteer who enjoys working with children, specifically toddlers, babies and new mums. We facilitate a Mothers Group at Centacare which runs every Tuesday morning during school terms from 9.00-11.45. The Mums often have older toddlers as well as their new bubs and we are seeking a volunteer to keep the older children occupied while the Mums can enjoy their time. The volunteer is also required to assist with the set up and pack down of the room and preparing and serving morning tea. As a volunteer you will also would need to have a current working with children check (or be prepared to obtain one), have a current National Police Check and have a genuine interest and enthusiasm in engaging in play with young children.


Ngala Midwest & Gascoyne – Volunteer Mentor: NOW LOOKING FOR TERM 2 2018 VOLUNTEERS

(Commencing start May). Ngala Midwest & Gascoyne is looking for people who are interested in the well-being of young people and who can engage and support them on a weekly basis for 10 weeks. The “Strong Self Strong Spirit” program (SSSS) uses strength based practises to improve the well-being of children aged 8-12 years in Geraldton. The program aims to intervene early and prevent or reduce the emergence of anti-social or offending behaviour among young people. Mentors will participate alongside their mentees in engaging in activities, discussion, crafts and excursion. The mentors will act as a role model and supporter and to show genuine interest in the support and development of young people. Mentors will be provided with FREE mentor training prior to the commencement of the program. SSSS will be held every Tuesday afternoon from 3.30pm – 5.00pm at Child and Parent Centre Rangeway, throughout school terms (period of 10 weeks each program). Mentors can volunteer for 1 Term or more if they enjoy it.
