Current Volunteer Opportunities List

 

Here is a list of some of the volunteer opportunities available in your community:

 

Palliative Care Geraldton Voluntary Support Carer: Volunteer Training 23 & 24 August 2017!
This valued and important role varies according to needs and wishes of the patient or family, depending on the actual setting of care i.e. persons own home or inpatient facility. The Volunteer Support Carer will be directed by the primary nurse as to the range and extent of their involvement. Tasks can include; sitting with patients, taking patients for walks, reading to patients, shopping, writing letters for patients, assisting with meals, answering call bells or phone in hospice unit, bed making, assisting with clerical/housekeeping activities, sitting with distressed or dying patients.
The role in the community (in-home) setting is also of great importance. The Volunteer Support Carers help keep the patients in their own home by supporting them in any aspect, including assisting their carer. Express your interest in attending the training today! Don’t wait for the next round in 6 months time – act now!

 

Bethanie Community CareSocial Centre Volunteer: Do you enjoy talking and interacting with older people? Are you looking for a satisfying and rewarding volunteer role? Only able to do a few hours a week? Then please consider Volunteering for Bethanie Community Care. In the lovely setting of their warm Social Centre in Beresford, Volunteers can ride in the bus and collect the clients from their homes and/or attend the Social Centre and engage in different activities with them. Whatever skills you have (because everybody has skills!)will be welcomed and invited to teach the aged clients.

 

Activ GeraldtonCity to Surf Race – Event Volunteers: This much loved and exciting event is back in Geraldton on the weekend of 29 &30 July. Volunteer roles include Race Bib Collection (Sat 29th), Road Marshals (must be over the age of 18), Start/Finish line marshals, water station attendants and help/clothing desk attendants. All Volunteers receive a Volunteer pack including a free Hat and T-shirt and plenty of thanks from hundreds of participants! Be part of this fun event and Volunteer for City to Surf!

 

Activ Geraldton – City to Surf RaceMarquee Attendant:  2 enthusiastic volunteers will share in the race start line excitement, primarily by providing a central meeting point for Activ staff, customers and supporters, but also providing assistance to race participants as necessary. Verbal briefing will be provided. An Activ staff member will be there along side the volunteers for support and assistance.  The marquee will also offer sunscreen, lollies and water to Activ staff, customers and supporters. Volunteers must be able to respond to questions from the general public, be able to navigate grassy public open spaces and be comfortable with plastic outdoor chairs. If you have enthusiasm to participate in community events and like engaging with people in a fun environment then this is for you . Volunteers must also be 18+.

 

Geraldton Hockey AssociationGate Keeper: The Hockey Association is in need of Volunteers to manage the gate for the 2017 Hockey Season! Duties for the Volunteers include; Set up ticket station in the Main gate entrance box, collect a small gate fee, make change and handle small amounts of cash. Volunteers will also need to greet attendees and offer directions or assistance as needed, a cash box will be provided. All shifts are flexible and if volunteering at a meal time a free canteen meal will be provided. Volunteers will also receive a free can of cool drink or water.

 

Activ GeraldtonCompanion Volunteer:  Activ’s Companion Volunteers give their time and friendship to adults living with disability so that they can do the things the rest of us take for granted.  2 hours twice a week is required. Potential suitable volunteers will be interested in caring and a genuine interest in supporting people living with a disability. Centrelink approved activity. Would be a perfect role for that “transition to retirement” time.

 

Apex GeraldtonApex Volunteer:  Apex is a volunteer community service organisation that offers active Australians aged 18+ an opportunity to learn more about themselves, gain new skills, make new friends and help those in need. Apex Geraldton Volunteers work to raise awareness about social justice issues, assist the needy in a practical way and contribute resources to causes as varied as cancer research, youth public speaking, Sausage sizzles, helping the elderly, midnight basketball, supporting community events and environmental protection.  Apex Geraldton will offer you plenty of opportunities to help other Australians, make new friends, and gain skills in public speaking, leadership and communication.

 

City of Greater GeraldtonU turn Fridayz Workshop Facilitator: U-Turn Fridayz is a youth group for 10-13 year olds. The program runs from 4.30-8.30pm every Friday during school terms. Facilitators are required for many different tasks and the role is extremely flexible. If you would enjoy mentoring and working with young people by running sports and recreational activities, assist with general supervision of youth centre, preparing dinner, drive participants’ home in the bus afterwards (licence required) and/or being a supervisor on the bus. This role is very flexible so if you can Volunteer for one hour or 4 hours we would love to hear from you!
