Current Volunteer Opportunities List
Here is a list of some of the volunteer opportunities available in your community:
Read Write Now – Volunteer Tutor: Are you interested in sharing your love of reading and writing? This free adult literacy group is back in Geraldton! Many adults cannot imagine what it would be like not being able to read a newspaper, fill out of a form or write a letter to a loved one. The Read Write Now! adult literacy program has been operating in WA since 1977 and has helped thousands of adults improve their reading a writing. Students meet with a trained volunteer (You!) once a week to help improve reading and writing skills. There are no tests and no text books; lesson plans are developed around individual needs to achieve goals. Let us know if you are passionate about improving the literacy of an adult!
Geraldton Volunteer Marine Sea Rescue – Radio Monitor: Join the team of local volunteers who monitor and operate the Marine Radio for sea rescues. Full training and ongoing support is required. If you have limited mobility and/or are in a wheelchair, the Geraldton Volunteer Marine Sea Rescue Group has a building to accommodate you, with a lift to the second floor as well as wide doorways, low wall switches and easy to reach IT systems where you will look over one of WA’s most beautiful beaches and man the systems.
Centacare Family Services – Raffle Ticket Volunteer: Centacare is looking for the generous support of local people to join our team of Raffle Ticket Volunteers! If you can offer an hour or two of your time for our annual Father’s Day appeal, we would love to hear from you! Volunteers helps sell raffle tickets at various supermarkets. While supporting our organisation, it is a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and people you haven’t seen for a while. Please express your interest in this position if you are in Geraldton, WA
City of Greater Geraldton- Musician Mentors: Do you have a passion for music and love to share that passion with others? Interested in working with young people? The freshly renovated BSharp studio located at PCYC is a place for all abilities to come and jam, meet other musicians or rehearse with their band. Individuals and bands are invited to attend, with the ultimate goal of participating in the Battle of the Bands held in October. Volunteer Mentors are there to support the development of individuals into bands and guide them through the preparations and rehearsals before the Battle goes down. WWCC is essential.
Mission to Seafarers – Grant Writer: Mission to Seafarers are looking for a volunteer with knowledge of writing Grant Applications/Business cases. Mission to Seafarers are hoping to relocate their premises and in doing so are requiring a Volunteer to prepare grant submissions to assist with the finances of a move. Though challenging, grant writing can also be personally and professionally rewarding. Someone with experience in this area for this project will be preferred.
City of Greater Geraldton – Late Night Basketball Volunteers: Wanted! Positive and engaging adult role models to enjoy this new and exciting local program! This new U-Turn Project program commences Friday 27 July for 8 weeks from 6.30pm-10.30pm, concluding Friday 14 September. Various roles assisting and supporting young people are available to Geraldton residents who have a genuine interest in the well-being of our local young people aged 13-18 yrs. This is a safe, lock-in event which offers dinner, workshops and games of basketball to our local youth with the intention of keeping them engaged and away from any antisocial behaviour. Volunteers do not have to commit to the whole 8 weeks – just let them know your availability and they will do all they can to include you. Volunteers must be 18+ and must either hold a current Working with Children Card or be willing to obtain one. The Committee are able to assist any potential volunteer with applying for a WWCC.
Mission to Seafarers – Meet and Greeter: Mission to Seafarers are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer who has a welcoming disposition to assist seafarers from around the world. You would work with another person and run a small shop where you may change foreign currency. You may also assist seafarers who are in need or distress and support them with practical and spiritual needs. Volunteers are required Monday to Friday 1pm- 6pm, or Monday to Sunday 6pm- 9pm. If you enjoy meeting new people from around the world then this is for you!
