Current Volunteer Opportunities List


Here is a list of some of the volunteer opportunities available in your community:


The Salvation Army – Administration & Community Engagement Assistant: This short term (6 month) Administration and Community Engagement role includes the competent handling of critical information, responding to and initiating phone calls and emails and assisting with the development of mission and ministry programs and events as directed. You will be responsible for general office duties including telephone, filing and customer service in this large and busy community welfare organisation. The successful applicant will have experience in administration, Microsoft Word and Excel and have excellent customer service skills. They will also be able to complete The Salvation Army’s volunteer registration process including obtaining a Working with Children Card, complete mandatory volunteer training (LEARN) and successfully complete the ChildSafe (SP3) Team Member training package.


The Bethanie Group Social Centre Volunteer:  Are you kind, compassionate and have an interest in caring for the aged in our community? As a Social Centre Volunteer, you support the Bethanie Social Centre staff to transport members on the Social Centre Bus to & from the Social Centre on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and on exciting activities and outings around the local community. If you are able to offer your time between 8.30am -4.00pm (or part-thereof) to assist with the transportation of members and Social Activities such as memory games, cards, arts & crafts, word & number games, gardening, singing, cooking, playing musical instruments & chatting with members or community outings, Bethanie would love to hear from you!


Geraldton Voluntary Tour Guides Association – Voluntary Tour Guide:  Do you want to help promote our beautiful City and show off a local icon? The Volunteer Tour Guides do 30 min daily tours of the HMAS Sydney II Memorial for visitors each day at 10.30am. They also conduct tours of the Victoria District Hospital & Old Gaol (Bill Sewell Complex) every Tuesday and Thursday at 2pm. This is a very satisfying role and would be suitable for people who are interested and have a passion in learning about the history of our region. The training provided also helps to build self-esteem and confidence in speaking to groups. There is also monthly team training provided.


Juniper HillcrestActivities Assistant: Volunteer in a lovely environment that is home to our older community members, many of whom don’t have regular visitors. Volunteer Activities Assistants interact with the residents to help promote and encourage their independence and well-being, as part of the dynamic therapy and leisure program. Activities may include helping with craft, light exercise, cooking or gardening groups, driving residents to appointments, accompanying on community outings or simply having a coffee and a chat!  Socialising with the residents helps brighten their day and yours! A minimum of a 12 month commitment is requested of all volunteers


St Vincent de Paul GeraldtonVinnies Shop Assistant: Come and join the friendly team at the Geraldton Vinnies shop! They are seeking friendly, helpful new team members who would like to give back to their community by helping sell clothes, sort donations, greet and serve customers and store and package food hampers. By volunteering you can be sure you’re making a difference to people in need.  For many volunteers, this is a chance to give something back to the community and to use their skills and experience to make a difference in the lives of people who need assistance the most. Store opening hours are Mon- Fri 9am – 3.30pm (shifts of 8.30am-12pm and 12pm-3.30pm) and Sat 9am- 12pm.


Cancer CouncilRelay for Life Committee Members: Are you looking to make a real difference? Do you want to be part of a global movement to beat cancer? Are you interested in running events? Can you spare an hour a fortnight? Cancer Council Relay for Life Midwest is looking for enthusiastic, creative, personable volunteers to form the organising committee responsible for running this unique 24 hour fundraising event. Committee members will also need to attend the Relay for Life on Sat 20th and Sunday 21st Oct 2018


The Salvation Army – Thrift Shop Volunteers: The Salvos have moved into bigger and better premises now located on Anzac Terrace! Responsible, well presented and energetic volunteers are needed in this busy Thrift Shop. Volunteering with the Salvos is a rewarding experience, which allows you to give something back to the community. Your valued role as a Thrift Shop Assistant will include: Delivery of extraordinary customer service, collection, sorting and pricing of donations, sale of goods, visual merchandising and store presentation. General cleaning also required ensuring the store is always clean, tidy and safe for customers.
